Former NBA Player Compares Charles Barkley and Tim Duncan
Mar 4, 2026
There have been some legendary power forwards to come through the NBA over the last few decades. Comparing them is almost impossible. Many of them played in different eras and never went head-to-head. On top of that, different playing styles make the comparison even tougher.
With all of that said, Tim Duncan is considered by many to be the greatest power forward ever. Not only was Duncan a league MVP and 15-time All-Defensive Team selection, but he’s also a five-time NBA champion.

Former NBA player Cuttino Mobley recently spoke about Duncan’s greatness but also didn’t want people to forget about another legendary power forward.
“Tim Duncan came in course big fundamental, like he’s just ridiculous. But Charles Barkley, bro, everything he did rebound and assist, like dominating. If it’s no Michael Jordan, then Charles Barkley wins a championship. I’m telling you, Mike messed it up for Karl Malone, John Stockton. Mike is just a party pooper; he don’t want nobody else to get none. He’s so stingy. But Charles was phenomenal. I don’t think people really, especially the last 15, 20 years, kids they don’t understand how good Charles Barkley was. He was really good, especially at his size.”
Many of the players who played during Jordan’s era might not have all the accolades they deserve. After all, part of what makes Tim Duncan so great is that he has five championships to back up his counting stats and personal accolades. Barkley, unfortunately, spent most of his career, like many other players in the 90s, in Michael Jordan’s shadow. Because of that, we may never really know how great he really was.
