Former NBA Center Believes Warriors Made a Huge Mistake

Did the Golden State Warriors give up too early on Jonathan Kuminga? Kuminga had four and a half seasons to prove himself to the Warriors front office, and they decided that what they saw during those seasons wasn’t good enough to try to keep him. Of course, part of the reason the Warriors traded Kuminga was that he himself requested it, but also, the Warriors didn’t seem to be interested in trying to make things work.

Now Kuminga seems to be thriving in his new home with the Atlanta Hawks. While he has only played in three games, he has shown the Hawks exactly why they wanted to take the risk to get him. In those three games, he is averaging 21.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals.
Because of Kuminga’s hot start in Atlanta, people are starting to clown the Warriors, saying they never should have given up on Kuminga. Kendrick Perkins is one of the people who thinks the Warriors should have held onto Kuminga a bit longer.
“They gave up on this man too soon, not only that, we know us four the road trippin family. Knew that Jonathan Kuminga had a high ceiling. Steph Curry knew it, Draymond Green knew it, Jimmy Butler knew it. The only person who didn’t believe was Steve Kerr.”
The reality is, if Curry and Draymond wanted Kuminga on the team, he would probably still be there. The issue is that Kuminga can play great for stretches, but then he has equally long stretches where he seems disinterested. The Warriors need consistency, and Kuminga just couldn’t provide it.
