Austin Reaves Could Be Looking at a Huge Payday From the Lakers

According to sources, Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves could be looking at a much bigger payday than many fans would expect.

Jovan Buha, who is pretty locked in to all things Lakers, recently gave his take on what a new contract for Reaves could look like. He said on a video posted to his X account:

"People around the league are penciling him in to make $30+ million this summer, whether it's with the Lakers or someone else. I expect it to be with the Lakers...he wants to be a Laker for life."

Born and raised in Arkansas, Austin Reaves began his college basketball career at Wichita State before transferring to Oklahoma. He had an excellent final season as a Sooner, averaging 18.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. Despite this college success, Reaves was not drafted during the 2021 NBA Draft and would later sign with the Lakers as an undrafted free agent.

It was clear, even in his first season, that the Lakers had scored a coup by signing the guard to a deal. By the time he reached his second season, he was playing nearly 30 minutes per game. He averaged 13 points a game and was deadly from three-point range, shooting 39.8%.

Reaves has continued to grow as a player and is now one of the most effective scorers in the NBA. During the 2024-25 season he established several career highs, including scoring 20.2 points per game, assists with 5.8, and rebounds with 4.5.
