Yves Missi Looks Great in Team Cameroon's AfroBasket Game

New Orleans Pelicans center Yves Missi was terrific for Team Cameroon in their win over Egypt on Thursday during the AfroBasket Tournament.

The current EuroBasket tournament is getting a lot of attention thanks to the presence of stars like Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. FIBA is also hosting an AfroBasket tournament as well.

The AfroBasket tournament will feature both current and former NBA players. Houston Rockets Josh Okogie is playing for Team Nigeria, and former Knicks and Bucks player Mamadi Diakite is playing for Team Guinea. The best player in the tournament is likely Missi.

The 21-year-old center was all over the place for Cameroon in its 95-68 victory over Egypt. He scored 10 points on 4-7 shooting and also pulled down 7 rebounds. Missi helped his team in several ways, also notching 3 assists and blocking two shots. The win has put Missi's team in the semifinals of the FIBA tournament.

Missi was born in Belgium but lived in Cameroon before moving to the United States to attend high school in Maryland, and then transferred to a school in Napa, California. A five-star prospect, he signed to play for Baylor University. An immediate starter at Baylor, Missi averaged 10.7 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Bears before being selected by the Pelicans with the 21st pick in the 2024 draft.

Like in college, Missi was an immediate starter, appearing in 71 games and starting 67 of them. He did not look overmatched at all in his first year in the league, earning second-team All-Rookie honors after averaging 9.1 points and 8.2 rebounds a game
