Warriors to Add Two More Guards to Rotation, Time to Consolidate?
Dec 1, 2025
The Golden State Warriors have had a disappointing start to the year. As of Monday, they are one game above .500 at 11–10, and are only the 8th seed in the Western Conference. When the team traded for Jimmy Butler towards the end of last season, they had higher hopes.
While the Warriors have had a difficult schedule to start the season and a few injuries, this is not the start they are proud of. Could some recent Warriors news turn things around?
Seth Curry will be signing a deal to join the Warriors. The Warriors will also be reintegrating De’Anthony Melton into the lineup after spending the beginning of the season recovering from injury.

While these two players will certainly help the Warriors, it also poses them a new (yet familiar) problem.
With Melton and Seth in the rotation, the Warriors will once again have way too many guards on the roster. Melton and Seth join a guard rotation that already includes Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski, Will Richard, Buddy Hield, and Gary Payton II.
Will the backcourt log jam that the new roster additions may cause trigger the Warriors to make some changes? Despite Kerr’s unwavering obsession with playing small-ball lineups, the Warriors are constantly outmatched physically. Adding two more undersized guards into the mix won’t help this.
Melton and Seth may make some of the other players on the Warriors roster more dispensable. Can they trade some of their guard depth for more size? If there is a trade like that out there, the Warriors should consider it. They need to stop playing guys who can’t create their own offense or guard multiple positions defensively. While Melton and Seth should improve the team, real improvement may need to come from the trade market.
