'This is the Team I've Waited For'; Damian Lillard Has Ultimate Praise For This Current Trail Blazers Team

Two years ago, the Portland Trail Blazers traded Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks, with the star point guard hoping to chase an NBA Championship alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo. Unfortunately, they weren't able to achieve that, and this past playoffs, Lillard would suffer a brutal injury, one that will force him to miss the entire 2025/26 regular season.

That also led to the Bucks parting ways with the All-NBA star, and in free agency, he was quick to head home to Portland, a place he spent the first decade of his NBA career. While he won't partake in the regular season, Lillard has spent plenty of time with the team, and in a recent interview, he revealed how impressed he is, calling this the team he was waiting for in Portland.

“I still think I have better moments ahead. Everything is happening in a weird way. What are the chances that I tear my Achilles and I get waived with two years left … and the first team I think of — and the first team that contacted me — is the Blazers? And me being back here … you know, I had to go away for this team to be assembled. And now it’s a team that I would have wanted to play on for years. So now I have a year to connect with this team while building my body up to get ready to go.”

When Lillard returns next season, he'll be in the twilight of his NBA career, but placing him back into this talented Trail Blazers lineup, it appears as though he's confident in what this team could do.
