Milwaukee Bucks To Make Major Giannis Decision After Deciding They Won't Trade Him
Feb 5, 2026
The Milwaukee Bucks have been the talk of the NBA over the past month, with all around the league waiting with baited breath to see if they decide to move two-time MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo. With the trade deadline just a matter of hours away, it appears no deal is close yet, and in a shock move, they have now told teams that Giannis isn't going to be traded at the deadline.
Before this announcement was made, ESPN's Brian Windhorst revealed that as a result of his current injury, the team are likely to shut him down for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign to protect him heading into the off-season.
Through 49 games, the Bucks are just 20-29, a major step back from what we've seen in recent years, and in that time, their superstar has appeared in just 30 games, and with fears a return may hurt his long-term value, the team are protecting themselves and the player.

On paper, this is the best move for the player and the team, and while there was hope he could lead them to a resurgence, they now seemingly believe it's not worth the risk to bring him back. Nothing has been made official yet as the team continue to navigate other moves at the deadline, but with the team likely to explore his trade options in the summer, don't be shocked if we don't see him on the floor again in 2025/26.
