Minnesota Timberwolves Reunite With Veteran Guard In Free Agency

The 2026 NBA trade deadline has officially come and gone, and while we didn't see Giannis Antetokounmpo moved, there was plenty of shocks, twists and turns over the past few days. The likes of Anthony Davis, Coby White, Kristaps Porzingis, Jose Alvarado, Ivica Zubac, Nikola Vucevic and others were dealt, and it's safe to say that the landscape of the league has changed.

One team that were very active were the Minnesota Timberwolves, as they made several moves, with the biggest addition being Ayo Dosunmu from the Chicago Bulls. They were sellers too however, moving Mike Conley in an earlier deal, but now, as some speculated on social media, he's back.

Many believed this was a deal that couldn't happen, as players can't re-sign with a team after being traded, however, Conley was dealt twice, meaning that he became eligible to return to the Timberwolves as a result. The move gives Minnesota added depth, and with the addition of Dosunmu and the return of Conley, this suddenly looks like one of the deepest teams in the entire Western Conference.

Before being dealt, Conley was averaging 4 points and 3 assists per game in 19 minutes of action, so while he's not going to start upon his return, he brings good depth to this team. Ultimately, Minnesota will be frustrated that they couldn't add a star caliber point guard to lead this team, but with good depth and stars like Anthony Edwards leading the way, their hopes are high for the remainder of the season.
