Steve Kerr Breaks Silence on Jonathan Kuminga Situation

Why does Steve Kerr keep benching Jonathan Kuminga? Does he have issues with the young forward, or is it purely basketball-related? There are tons of rumors going around about Kuminga and Kerr's relationship, but only two people can truly set the record straight. Steve Kerr is one of those two people.

Kerr recently said about Kuminga,

"I think there are a lot of young players, not just JK, but lots of young players around the league who -- they have to find themselves. They have to figure out who they are as a player, and I think that's important for JK. Every experience is an important one…I'm going to keep coaching him. And as he said the other day, we have a good relationship. It's the combinations, it's the fit, all that stuff has been ... you know, it's been going on for a few years. We know that. I'm not gonna shy away from that. It's pretty obvious…I do feel for him that he has sort of been at the whim of my decision-making based on what I want to see out there from our team."

It seems like, from his quotes, Kerr doesn’t dislike Kuminga at all. Kuminga is simply a victim of the Warriors' roster being too deep. The only problem is, the Warriors' roster isn’t that deep. Kuminga has the talent to be one of the highest usage guys on the team, but Kerr just doesn’t trust him.

This was abundantly clear when the Warriors were without Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green recently, and Kerr still didn’t really play Kuminga. It seems like Kerr is just being political while he buys time, and the Warriors may end up trading Kuminga.
