Despite Speculation, The Pelicans Aren't Expected To Move This Particular Star

Early in the 2025–26 NBA season, trade rumors have been flying all over the place, and unsurprisingly, teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks, among others, have been active in speculation.

The former has its eye on many different players, but according to recent reports, Herb Jones of the New Orleans Pelicans is one of their top targets. On paper, this would be a move that makes sense, as Jones could slide in perfectly into this Lakers roster as they look to win a Championship with the trio of Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, and LeBron James.

However, all of that speculation has now been shut down by Dan Woike, a Lakers reporter for The Athletic, as he confirms that the Pelicans are not interested in moving Jones at this point in time.

“While Lakers fans can fantasize about some all-out liquidation of the three-win Pelicans’ roster, team and league sources tell The Athletic that New Orleans is not interested in moving Jones. And considering what LA would have to offer in a deal, expiring contracts and a single first-round pick, the Pelicans almost certainly wouldn’t engage at that price point.”

That's not to say that things wouldn't change between now and the trade deadline, but if he is to be moved, Woike confirms that the Lakers simply don't have the pieces to intrigue New Orleans enough.

Given his versatility and his ability on both ends of the floor, there will be plenty of interest in Jones this season, and while the Lakers are all but ruled out as a trade partner, if the right offer comes along, the Pelicans may be tempted to move him.
