Steph Curry Shares Touching Story About His Son Canon Watching Klay Thompson

Last year, the Golden State Warriors saw the end of an era when Klay Thompson left the Bay Area to sign with the Dallas Mavericks. After helping usher in a new NBA era predicated on fast-paced and outside shooting, the Splash Brothers tandem of Thompson and Steph Curry was no more.

Fans haven't stopped thinking about Thompson's departure from Golden State, and apparently, neither has his former running mate. In an interview with Anthony Slater and Tim MacMahon, Curry shared a story about sitting at home and catching a Dallas Mavericks-Utah Jazz game on TV. His son Canon was watching this Monday night matchup with him.

According to Curry, he yelled "Shoot it, Klay!" at one point in the fourth quarter. This prompted his seven-year-old to say, "Klay's playing? Why are you here?"

The innocent question from Canon's lips struck Curry. "Those are the moments it hits," he told ESPN. "Things have evolved in life. But there are reminders of how special of a thing it was and also a reminder of how unfortunate...the reality of what it is right now."

Does this mean that Curry would like to run it back with Thompson? It certainly looks that way. "I wish he was still here," Curry added.

At this point, it appears that the stars are lining up for the NBA's all-time leader in three-pointers made to get his wish. Last week, ESPN's Shams Charania reported that the Mavericks are open to trading Thompson and a number of other key rotation players (including oft-injured All-Star Anthony Davis).

On the one hand, a reunion of the Splash Brothers wouldn't necessarily move the Warriors closer to title contention, as both Curry and Thompson are no longer the spring chickens that helped build the Golden State dynasty in the late 2010s.

On the other hand, not a few Warriors fans would rejoice at the possibility of their beloved backcourt tandem running it back with Draymond Green one more time. The trio of Curry, Thompson, and Green has Hall of Fame resumes, and it makes sense that they would spend the twilight of their careers together.

At the very least, it's safe to assume that the boy who went viral with the line "Hello, Klay Thompson" would be delighted to see his father's old backcourt partner back in town.
