Some View This Warriors Forward As One of the Best Trade Assets Available

The Golden State Warriors are probably going to trade Jonathan Kuminga. Despite his hot start to the season, and it looking like he had truly turned into a new player, Kuminga is back to being yanked in and out of the lineup and playing inconsistently.

The Warriors signed him to a contract extension this offseason, but that doesn’t mean the Kuminga trade rumors haven’t already started. In fact, part of the reason the Warriors wanted to sign him to a deal was to make his contract more tradeable. Now, it looks like that is the likeliest path.

Marc Stein of The Stein Line reported that some believe Kuminga is going to be one of the hotter assets on the trade market this season.

“He's not even eligible to be moved until Jan. 15, but it's no secret that the Warriors' hardball stance all summer with Kuminga in the sides' restricted free agency saga was adopted with the intention to ensure that the 23-year-old was re-signed to a tradeable contract. ‘It’s one of the best trade chips in the league,’ one veteran executive told The Stein Line.”

The Warriors should hope this is true. Because while Kuminga might not be the best fit in Golden State, he is certainly a good player. A young team should absolutely take a flier on him because his upside is that of a star.

If this report is true,  the Warriors can actually get some good value back for Kuminga in a trade. That would be huge in increasing their playoff chances and championship hopes. Unfortunately, for now, they will have to wait to get a deal done.
