Russell Westbrook Reveals His Interest Level in Playing Overseas This Season
Oct 13, 2025
Despite having an incredible career to this point, it appears as though Russell Westbrook's future in basketball may be beyond the NBA. That comes after a recent report that the former MVP is drawing attention overseas, but unfortunately, he's struggling to find any suitors in free agency with the season just a matter of days away.
That report revealed that a team in China was willing to offer him at least four times more than he'll get paid in free agency, with some speculating that this could be his future. However, according to Marc Stein, there's no interest from Westbrook at this point in time in heading overseas, with his team having zero discussions about potentially leaving the United States to play.
“There has been ‘zero discussion’ to date about him weighing interest to play abroad this season, league sources say. He'd naturally generate a slew of overseas offers if he was open to them, but I'm told that securing his next NBA opportunity has been the focus for Westbrook's camp. Even if that means, as it increasingly appears, options fail to materialize until after the 2025-26 regular season starts on Oct. 21.”
Even if Westbrook doesn't get a new deal before the regular season, as of right now, his focus remains on the NBA and finding a new role somewhere. Sacramento appears to be the most logical destination for the former superstar guard, but as of right now, things could go in any direction as he looks to continue his NBA career moving forward.
