Joe Tsai Reveals The Brooklyn Nets Strategy Heading Into the 2025/26 NBA Season

The Brooklyn Nets made not one, not two, not three, not four, but five first-round picks in the 2025 NBA Draft, and unsurprisingly, it means this team is heading towards a very long-term rebuild. With some solid pieces like Cam Thomas and Nic Claxton in place, this team does have some intriguing players, but unfortunately, they just aren't in a position to succeed right now.

With so many recently drafted players, however, there have been suggestions that this team could be in on some big-name stars with so many upcoming picks and recently selected players. However, when asked about it, Joe Tsai hinted that with the Nets only having one first-round pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, the team could be looking to struggle to lock in that No. 1 overall selection.

"We have one (first-round) pick in 2026, and we hope to get a good pick… You can predict what kind of strategy we will use for this season.”

While he doesn't blatantly admit that the team will be tanking this season, given the roster they've put together and their clear goal of getting a star to come to Brooklyn, tanking is the only path forward for this organization.

This type of talk is something that the NBA has tried to discourage by changing the draft lottery rules in recent years, but with the Nets having nothing to play for with this current group, tanking is simply the only thing that makes sense for them.
