New York Liberty Sign Four-Time NBA Champion as New Head Coach
Nov 21, 2025
The New York Liberty have one of the most loaded teams in the entire WNBA, but after winning just one title so far with their core, they made a change this off-season. Following an early playoff exit, the team parted ways with Sandy Brondello, just a year after she led them to their maiden WNBA title back in 2024.
A few months later, and now the team have finally found their replacement, officially hiring Golden State Warriors long-time assistant Chris DeMarco.
The 40-year old has served in his role as a Warriors assistant dating back to 2012, playing a key role on Steve Kerr's staff as the team went on to win four NBA Championships over the past decade. Now, he takes on a new role and the Championship pressure that comes with coaching the trio of Jonquel Jones, Sabrina Ionescu and Breeana Stewart in New York.
While there's pressure, there's also immense talent, and with such a loaded roster, there's no reason why the Liberty can't contend for another Championship under the very experienced DeMarco.

Obviously, there's some major differences not only between the WNBA and the NBA, but between being an assistant and a Head Coach, all of which DeMarco will need to go through this year. Ultimately though, he's spent the last decade learning under Kerr, and if he can take those lessons with him, this could end up being an incredible hire for the Liberty, a team that has high hopes for the upcoming season.
