Mavericks Trade Idea Ships Out Anthony Davis For Disappointing Package

The Dallas Mavericks screwed up big time. When they decided to trade Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis, they completely changed the path of their franchise. Now, instead of contending for championships, it looks like the Mavs could be headed to rebuilding mode. This means that an Anthony Davis trade could be the logical next step.

Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed “1 Trade Every NBA Team Would Make If the Deadline Was Today,” and he proposed one trade that will probably make Mavericks fans pretty angry.

“The trade: Kristaps Porziņģis, Asa Newell, Luke Kennard, and 2027 first-round pick (top-4 protected, via NOP or MIL) to the Dallas Mavericks for Anthony Davis

The Hawks reportedly have eyes on Davis, per ESPN's Shams Charania, and if they could bring in the Brow without sending out their best trade chips, that might be the kind of move that suddenly puts them on a contending-level path.

Newell has looked good in limited minutes, and that 2027 first could land pretty high up the board, but Atlanta is still keeping all rotation-regulars from its young core, including Trae Young and that 2026 "superfirst" coming from either New Orleans or Milwaukee. And despite keeping its best assets, it would still manage to land a 10-time All-Star with five selections each to All-NBA and All-Defensive teams.”

Trading Anthony Davis for a sickly Porzingis, a top-4 protected pick, and a salary filler would hurt a lot. Just last year, they traded Luka Dončić for him. Now they are looking at a weak asset haul just a year later?

The Mavericks simply can’t make a trade like this. If Davis won’t demand more on the trade market, they should just keep him and see what he and Cooper Flagg can build together.
