Mavericks Face Another Blow With Recent Injury to Big Man
Nov 26, 2025
The Dallas Mavericks are having a season from hell. After trading away Luka Doncic last season, it is as if the team has been cursed. Anthony Davis barely played last year, and then Kyrie Irving went down as well. Davis has only been able to play a few games this season before getting hurt again, and Irving has yet to return.
Now, a recent Mavericks injury update brings even worse news. Promising young center, Dereck Lively II is likely to miss at least a week with swelling and discomfort in his foot.
“It is feared that the Mavs face an extended injury absence for Dereck Lively II, @TheSteinLine has learned.
Held out Monday in Miami for right foot injury management, Lively has played in seven of 19 games after offseason foot surgery and a recent knee issue.”

The Mavericks are already flirting with being the worst team in the Western Conference, and losing Lively is only going to make them worse. On top of that, it isn’t a great sign that their young center is already dealing with foot and knee issues this early in his career.
All of these injuries continue to point to one thing. The Mavericks need to throw away this season, tank, and develop their young talent. This means that players like Anthony Davis need to be traded ASAP, and probably a few other veterans on the roster as well.
That way, all the pressure on this season can be removed. They won’t need to rush Lively back from any type of injury, can see exactly what Cooper Flagg is like in a no-pressure environment, and pivot towards a rebuilding future.
