LeBron Wants The NBA to Make This Major Change
Mar 11, 2026
There are tons of minor changes that are always being discussed in the NBA. How does the league deal with stars who have missed chunks of the season, not being eligible for major awards? What should the league do about tanking? Is the NBA season too long? These are just some of the questions the league is asking itself about how to improve its product.

While the league has its concerns, players have other concerns. LeBron James recently spoke about the major change he would make if he could.
“On any given night, you can have one official telling you, you know, one thing and then another official telling you another thing. I’m like so my take is like is this not a world league conversation that you guys are having to like this is how we officiating these plays, this how we’re officiating these moves, this how we’re officiating this or is just like depending on the ref like you know so that’s like that’s the most frustrating part like when you out there and sometimes you get away with certain things and some it’s like you know even defensively, some games you’re allowed to get away with completely bear hugging guys and holding them and then two nights later you can barely put your hands on guys.”
LeBron is right. It does seem that on any given night, the officiating in the grey zone of the NBA’s rules can look completely different. What’s difficult is that every game is different, and every game needs a slightly different type of officiating.
That being said, the league should make strides to bring more consistency to its officiating. The players would obviously appreciate it, but even for fans who are yelling at their TV, wondering why something is or isn’t a foul, more consistency would be nice.
