John Stockton Reveals Why He No Longer Watches NBA Basketball

John Stockton recently revealed that he doesn't watch NBA games anymore, saying that the game has changed too much and isn't physical anymore.

He may have usually been the smallest guy on the court, but that never stopped John Stockton from being an outstanding NBA player. Teaming with Karl Malone in Utah, Stockton was a ten-time All-Star, and eleven-time All-NBA honoree and was a member of the 1992 Omypic Dream Team.

What some fans may have not known about Stockton was that he was a very physical player. Some opponents may refer to him as dirty, but other would argue that he did what he had to do to survive as a six-foot-one, 175 pound point guard.

Stockton feels that the aggressiveness that was a hallmark during his days in the NBA is sorely lacking today. He said during an interview on The Maverick Approach:

"The load management, the salaries are off the charts, the style of play is… these kids are talented, man, they can make shots. Because they can make shots everybody thinks they should be taking them. There is less strategy, there is less physicality… I think people are looking for gladiators out there, they want you to go to war. They want you to go out there and do what they can't do, not go out there, shake hands and hug each other."

It is definitely not unusual for a player from the past to negatively compare the way the sport is played today to how it was when they were playing. But Stockton's opinion certainly isn't unique or controversial, with many fans and players agreeing with him.
