Charlotte Hornets Officially Make Veteran Guard Available In Trade Talks

The Charlotte Hornets have once again struggled in 2025–26, and even with their young, rising core, it's tough to see when they will be able to compete in the Eastern Conference. Heading into the trade deadline this season, they likely aren't going to be buyers, and as a result, they may be looking to acquire future assets instead.

There's been plenty of speculation around LaMelo Ball as they pivot to Kon Knueppel as the face of the franchise, and now, another veteran has become a key trade candidate. According to Jake Fischer, the Hornets are open for business, as he name-drops Collin Sexton as a player that could be moved ahead of the deadline if there's enough interest around the league.

“Sources say that the Hornets, furthermore, are also open for business to a degree, but that might only mean shopping veteran guard Collin Sexton as Charlotte — sporting the league's longest playoff drought at nine seasons and counting — clings to hope that it can still be a Play-In team.”

As Fischer also mentions, the team is clinging to hopes that they could sneak into the playoffs, so while a blockbuster move may not be on the way, moving Sexton could be the best possible move for the organization.

Ultimately, if the Hornets can find the best core to lead them forward, the future could be incredibly bright, but with the team struggling, expect them to move some key pieces ahead of the trade deadline.
