'He's Running His Mouth'; Klay Thompson Calls Out Ja Morant After Shocking Confrontation

Klay Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks have been a major letdown thus far in 2025–26, with the veteran two-guard clearly past his prime in the NBA. However, he can still hold his own, and we saw that over the weekend in a matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies, with 22 points on 6–12 from beyond the arc by Thompson, keeping them in the game.

It was a confrontation that stole all the headlines from this game, though, with Thompson standing up for his 18-year-old rookie Cooper Flagg, drawing the attention of the entire Grizzlies team. That drew the injured Ja Morant over, who, among other things, called the four-time NBA champion a 'bum'.

Unsurprisingly, social media has had a field day with this situation, as Morant, at 27 years of age, has far fewer accomplishments than Thompson, who is considered one of the greatest shooters in league history. Klay was quick to respond to Morant's trash talk as well, stating that Morant was just running his mouth while calling out the fact that he's on the bench again.

“Just running his mouth. He’s been running his mouth a long time. It’s funny you run your mouth when you’re on the bench. It’s kinda been the whole story of his career so far.”

These teams are going to meet several times again in 2025–26, and it's 100% certain that something is going to happen again. After Thompson's clapback here, it's safe to say the fans are clearly on the veteran's side in this new feud.
