Should the Warriors Make This Risky Trade for Steph's Legacy?
Nov 24, 2025
It doesn’t seem like this iteration of the Golden State Warriors’ roster can help Stephen Curry compete for another NBA title. As of Monday, the Warriors are 9–9, the 8th seed in the Western Conference, and on a three-game losing streak. They are far from where they need to be to be able to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder or Denver Nuggets come playoff time.
This is why the Warriors trade rumors are starting to pick up. Stephen Curry is on the back nine of his career, and the Warriors should be desperate to give him one last chance to win his fifth NBA championship.
To do this, the Warriors may need to make a big trade.
Evan Sidery of Forbes reported, “The Kings and Warriors, who had dialogue around Jonathan Kuminga, are widely expected to pick up talks again ahead of the deadline around a bigger framework.
Golden State can build a compelling package around Kuminga, Moses Moody, Buddy Hield for Domantas Sabonis and Keon Ellis.”

Should the Warriors consider a trade like this to make them potential contenders once again? It’s hard to say. Domantas Sabonis is a great center, and Keon Ellis is an excellent defender. However, would getting Sabonis (and his enormous contract) be enough to take the Warriors over the edge? It definitely isn’t a no-brainer.
That being said, the Warriors can’t be risk-averse any longer. They made the bold trade to pick up Jimmy Butler, but it can’t stop there. If the Warriors are going to actually give Curry another legitimate shot at winning it all, they need to be willing to put every young guy and pick on the table to make their roster better right now.
