ESPN Reporter Reveals The Likelihood Of A Tyler Herro Extension Before The Season

For the past few years, Tyler Herro has improved more and more each season, with his best year for the Miami Heat being his All-Star campaign in 2025 or his 2022 NBA Sixth Man of the Year award-winning season. Last season, Herro posted 24 points on 38% shooting from beyond the arc, and with 77 games played, he's proving that he can stay healthy for a full campaign.

Now, Herro is eligible for a long-term extension, with free agency set for the summer of 2027, but for now, there's been little movement on a deal between the two parties. Ahead of the regular season, ESPN's Brian Windhorst has revealed the latest,

"Tyler Herro's coming off an All-Star season and is definitely interested in extending with the Heat, but there haven't been substantive talks to this point, and a deal is doubtful, sources say.

In a vacuum, Herro is the player the Heat probably should be most interested in extending, and Herro saw former All-Star Bam Adebayo get a large extension last year. But it doesn't appear to be in the offing."

Reports state that the reason why they aren't looking to extend Herro is to keep the salary cap clear, likely to target a big star like Giannis Antetokounmpo. Ultimately, Herro could be the star the Heat builds around for years to come, and whether or not that happens, we likely won't find out before the 2025–26 regular season begins, as a new deal simply isn't going to happen.
