Dwight Howard Reflects on His Hall of Fame Career

Dwight Howard was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame this year, and he talked to Slam Online about how he feels about both his legacy and his induction.

The end to Dwight Howard's career was far from dominant as he bounced around from team to team, eventually departing for China where he played for two seasons.

The end to Howard's career might have obscured just how dominant he was at the peak of his career. Howard was a eight-time All-Star who made eight All-NBA Teams (5 firsts, 1 second, two thirds).

Howard was also renowned for his defense, making five NBA All-Defense Teams (four firsts, one second). The Big Man also led the NBA in rebounding five times and was named the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year in 2009, 2010 and 2011. He even added a championship ring in 2020 as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Those accolades feel forgotten about when it comes to Howard, but it is clear that those voting for the Hall of Fame were aware of them. Howard was inducted into the Hall on the very first ballot.

The long-time center reflected on the upds and downs of his NBA career telling Slam Online:

I just want people to always remember that no matter how polarizing things can get on the court with me—I know I’ve been one of the most polarizing players in the history of the game—I want them to know that everything on my end was always love.
