Check Out Vlade Divac's All-Time European Starting Five
Aug 21, 2025
During an interview with Index HR, long-time NBA standout Vlade Divac was asked about his all-time European starting five and his answers were quite surprising.

Many players tend to look fondly back on their own contemporaries and Divac is no different. So while many European players have done amazing things over the last 30 years, the center and former Kings executive only named one recent player on his list.
Divac responded to Index HR:
"I'll start from the end, the center spot. Kresimir Cosic, Nikola Jokic, Toni Kukoc, Drazen Petrovic, Sasa Djordjevic. Man, this was tough. I could name five, but in my head there are many more fantastic players. I could make three teams, but let's go with these five. I left Dino, but I'm emotionally tied to Kreso. Yes, apart from Sabonis, I don't see who else could break in. Parker instead of Djordjevic? No chance."
Jokic, a two-time MVP was able to make the list, but Dirk Nowitzki, a former MVP, a 14-time All-Star and the 6th all-time leading scorer in NBA history was left off.
Toni Kukoc and Drazen Petrovic are well-known to NBA fans. Kukoc was a stand-out player who won championships for the Bulls along with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Petrovic was a rising star for the Nets before he was killed in a tragic auto accident.
Sasa Djordjevic only played briefly in the NBA for the Trail Blazers, but he is an all-time great in Europe. Cosic, from Yugoslavia, played his college ball at BYU, but resisted overtures from the NBA for years so he could play in Europe. He is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
