Austin Rivers Isn't impressed With LeBron When It Comes to Scorers

While breaking down the greatest scorers in NBA history, former NBA player Austin Rivers was left unimpressed by the legendary LeBron James.

When it comes to basketball, advanced statistics have never been better. If a player provides value in a non-traditional way, it can now be quantified.

LeBron James is, without a doubt, one of the greatest basketball players of all time. But he doesn't necessarily get there by scoring the most points. While James can rain down points against most opponents, that is not the focal point of his game.

That seems to stick in Rivers' craw. When talking about the top scorers of all-time, the former NBA point guard explained:

"LeBron James doesn’t have half the offensive bag that Kevin [Durant] has…I would say Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, James Harden, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and Allen Iverson are the best scorers I’ve ever seen."

Some might be quick to consider this to be a dig by Rivers delivered against James. But that is not necessarily the case. While you may contrast Michael Jordan against players like Julius Erving or Kobe Bryant, King James is a different kind of player altogether.

The best comp for LeBron James isn't necessarily an explosive scorer like Jordan, or Bryant, or Gervin, but more like a jumbo-sized distributor like Magic Johnson. Part of what has made James so special is the different way in how he impacts the game. So while he may not be a scorer on the level of MJ, Kobe or Dr. J, that doesn't make him any less essnetial to his team's success.
