Atlanta Hawks Lock In A Key Piece Of Their Future WIth A Long-Term Contract

With the 2025–26 NBA season right around the corner, we've seen a flurry of rookie contract extensions, and on Monday, we saw perhaps the biggest of the offseason. Last year, the Atlanta Hawks saw a breakout campaign from Australian guard Dyson Daniels, with the 22-year-old taking home Most Improved Player.

Not only that, but he came second in Defensive Player of the Year voting, and after acquiring him from the New Orleans Pelicans, the Hawks may have themselves another superstar in their backcourt. On Monday, they didn't hesitate in giving him a long-term deal, with Shams Charania announcing a four-year, $100 million extension for the star guard.

At 22 years old, Daniels took a huge step forward in 2024–25, averaging career highs in points (14), steals (3), rebounds (6), and assists (4), showing he's capable of being a two-way star for Atlanta. Now, the Hawks have locked him in, adding him to the core of Trae Young, Jalen Johnson, Zaccharie Risacher, and Kristaps Porziņģis, with the team hoping they can take a leap as a team this season.

While there are still improvements to be made offensively, Daniels has one of the biggest strengths in the entire NBA, and next to Young in the backcourt, it's the perfect pairing. At just 22 years of age, Daniels will be just 27 when this contract is up, and if his trajectory continues the way it's gone over the past 18 months, we could be looking at a future All-Star for Atlanta.
