Anthony Edwards Fires Warning Shot At NBA Insider Shams Charania
Oct 16, 2025
Shams Charania will forever be known as the reporter who broke the news of the blockbuster trade sending Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. With the retirement of Adrian Wojnarowski, who was famous for his “Woj bombs,” Charania has now inherited the honor of dropping bombshells that shock NBA fans.
The NBA insider, however, has been given a stern warning by one of today’s rising stars. On Wednesday, Charania appeared on a special online show called “Believe That Awards,” which featured Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards. Knowing that Charania is the man who tends to have epic breaking news, Edwards made his preemptive strike.
“If you know I’m finna get traded, you better m*****f***ing text me,” Edwards told Charania. “Don’t leak that s*** on the m*****f***ing Twitter.”
Funnily enough, Charania had acknowledged that a franchise player like Edwards wasn’t likely to be traded at this point in his career. Of course, the Doncic trade has shattered all expectations for who’s safe and who’s not.
Charania, who worked for The Athletic and FanDuel TV prior to joining ESPN last year, recalled the feeling right before he tweeted the Doncic news.
“My hands were shaking because you just know the ramifications it has. No one ever expects a guy like Luka or a guy like you, Ant, to get traded,” Charania said.
While there’s no telling what any NBA organization will be willing to pull off, Edwards appears to be in the Timberwolves’ long-term plans, given his impact on the team. From his sophomore season onwards, Minnesota has made it to the playoffs. Two first-round exits were followed by a couple of appearances in the Western Conference Finals.

Last year, Edwards had to make a major adjustment as longtime Wolves center Karl-Anthony Towns was traded to the New York Knicks. This deal meant that Edwards would now have to build chemistry with Julius Randle, who plays a different offensive style compared to Towns. As a testament to both players’ skill and maturity, they were able to lead the Wolves past the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round and the Golden State Warriors in the second round.
So, does this mean that Charania won’t be breaking the news of an Edwards trade any time soon? Probably. But, in case that scenario ever plays out, Charania knows what Edwards wants him to do.
