Warriors Role Player Wants to Get Paid This Offseason

Every player wants to get paid what they believe they are worth. When you work your entire life to perfect your craft, you want to be rewarded for your hard work. Most NBA players are paid more than fairly for being one of the best 500 or so people in the world at playing basketball. However, that doesn’t mean that every player doesn’t want to maximize their earnings.

De’Anthony Melton is one of those players. Melton has been in the league since 2018 but still hasn’t gotten a huge payday. Now that he is back healthy and having a career year for the Warriors, he wants to get paid his due.

“I mean I’ve been in this league a decent amount of time now. So 8 years is a lot of time. I’ve put in a lot of time and effort and work into this, you know what I mean? So I think that should be rewarded and I think, for anybody, you put in that much time, effort, work and you know you’ve seen the results and you’ve seen how much impactful you are and what you have done, like I said, you want to be rewarded for that. So, whatever comes with it, comes with it, but end of the day you want to get rewarded for your services.”

While every Warriors fan would be happy to see Melton get paid, it probably would mean losing him to a rival team. The Warriors are going to be hamstrung by Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler’s giant contracts this offseason, and it could mean that they will have to lose players like Melton.

The fact that Melton is already focused on getting a big contract this summer just shows that it is going to be very difficult for the Warriors to retain him.
