Victor Wembanyama Promises To One Day Compete In Key NBA Contest

Once upon a time, the NBA's Slam Dunk Contest was can't-miss TV for sports fans, with some of the biggest names in the league doing battle to impress fans with their creativity and athleticism. In recent years however, it's become an opportunity for young players to do the same, and while some have impressed, for the most part, the event has lost that special spark that once made it one of the best events on the NBA calendar.

This season, the event featured Carter Bryant, winner Keshad Johnson, Jaxson Hayes and Jase Richardson, and unfortunately, most of the dunks from the event will be forgotten rather quickly, despite however much effort the players put into it. That may all be changing soon, as San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama has now made a statement about the dunk contest, revealing that one day, he'd love to compete in the event.

“I’ll be in the Dunk contest one day.”

Already in his NBA career, Wembanyama has attempted to make the All-Star Game competitive again, and with the dunk contest needing some serious star power, he could be the guy to bring legitimacy back to the contest, something it has desperately been in need of.

Ultimately, there's no telling whether or not the dunk contest can return to its former glory, but after the likes of LeBron James refused to enter over his career, if Wemby does take on the challenge, it could bring this event back to what it used to be.
