Three Teams That Should Consider Trading for Ja Morant

Ja Morant could be on the trade block. Teams have been monitoring his situation since he wasn’t able to get a contract extension from the Memphis Grizzlies last summer. Now, after a one-game suspension because he butt heads with the Grizzlies' coaching staff, the Ja Morant trade rumors are really starting to swirl. Here are three teams that should consider trading for Morant.

Miami Heat

The Miami Heat are always in the market for a superstar. They remain a top trade destination for the next available star, and it’s looking like that could be Morant. Additionally, they don’t have a solid point guard at the moment, leaning heavily in recent years on Tyler Herro’s playmaking ability despite him probably being more of a shooting guard.

If Miami believes that their culture can get Morant on his best behavior and in the best shape of his life, he could be a risk worth trading for. However, if Morant couldn’t behave in Memphis, what do we think will happen in Miami?

Houston Rockets

When Fred VanVleet went down this offseason, the Rockets went from definitive title contenders to an unknown quantity. They still don’t have a reliable starting point guard. Instead, they’ve been opting to use Amen Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Alperen Sengun to run the offense. If the Rockets want to take the pressure off of those guys and add another elite talent to their roster, trading for Morant could be the move.

Toronto Raptors

The Raptors are kind of young, kind of talented, and kind of going nowhere. They haven’t been able to put elite talent next to Scottie Barnes in recent years, and trading for Ja Morant would be one way to do that quickly. Speaking of Quickley, he hasn’t proven that he is worthy to be the franchise’s point guard of the future. Instead, the Raptors could pivot now and make a big swing (a’ la the Kawhi Leonard trade) and see what happens.
