Shaedon Sharpe Inks Long-Term Extension with the Portland Trail Blazers

Back in the 2022 NBA Draft, the Portland Trail Blazers used the No. 7 overall pick on a very talented young guard in Shaedon Sharpe from Kentucky. The Canadian guard flashed immense athleticism and scoring upside when the team took a chance on him, and in three NBA seasons thus far, he's shown fantastic improvement through each one.

Still, only 22 years of age with 184 NBA games under his belt, it's clear that Sharpe has the ability to be a starting guard in the NBA for years to come, and the Blazers clearly see that too. Over the weekend, the team made their commitment to their former top pick clear, as they committed to him on a long-term extension.

First reported by ESPN's Shams Charania, he revealed that the Blazers and Sharpe have agreed to terms on a four-year, $90 million extension, and given the type of money that's handed out in the modern NBA, this is a great move for the player and team.

Last season was Sharpe's best in the NBA to date, as the 22-year-old averaged an impressive 18.5 points a night on 45% shooting from the field, and while he needs to improve on a 31% clip from deep, he's shown enough for this extension to make sense.

Ultimately, this is a good core building in Portland with Sharpe, Donovan Clingan, Deni Avdija, and others, and with Sharpe now locked in long-term, they can continue their rebuild towards the NBA Playoffs once more.
