Russell Westbrook Reveals His Retirement Plans After This Season

It may have taken all offseason long, but Russell Westbrook finally has a new home in the NBA, with the former MVP inking a deal with the Sacramento Kings this past week. Westbrook joins an aging core led by DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine, and in a Western Conference that's loaded like we've never seen, they may struggle to make the postseason in 2025–26.

Whether that happens or not, the former MVP has recently addressed his future, and at age 36, many would believe that his future in the NBA is coming to an end in the near future. However, when questioned about retirement, Westbrook revealed one detail, and that is that he has no plans to retire anytime soon, as he plans to play on after the upcoming campaign with the Kings.

Last season, Westbrook averaged 13, 5, and 6 with the Denver Nuggets, and while he's drawn plenty of criticism, especially on social media, he continues to be a solid contributor, whether that's as a starter or off the bench. Obviously, we've not yet seen Westbrook on the floor for the Kings, so the fit is unclear, as is where his future in the NBA will be beyond this season if things don't work out.

At the end of the day, Westbrook was a huge piece of this modern era of the NBA, and while his career is clearly coming to an end, as of right now, the former MVP doesn't show any signs of wanting to retire in the near future.
