Russell Westbrook Gives His True Opinion on Kings Fans After Joining Team

The Sacramento Kings have saved Russell Westbrook from starting this NBA season without a home. All offseason, it looked like Westbrook might not find a team to start his 18th season.

Westbrook's Hall of Fame career has been somewhat divisive. He is a nine-time All-Star, an MVP, and will forever be known as Mr. Triple-Double. Yet even during his MVP season, people were debating whether his ball-dominant, frantic play was more valuable to his counting stats than to his team's winning.

Since leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder, Westbrook has continued to be polarizing. Some people and teams have felt that while Westbrook still has a ton of basketball talent to give any team, he is more trouble than he is worth.

Westbrook has played on a different team every season since leaving OKC. Even while he has been productive, nobody has felt like they wanted another year of his services. Will the Kings be the first? Westbrook is at least saying the right things to win over Kings fans. Here’s what he said about playing in Sacramento.

"Man, I think fans are one of the reasons why. I love to play the game, it's one of the reasons why I continue to go out, and give everything I have. Being on the roadside, I know how great this fan base can be. And I'm grateful. And I'm grateful. And I'm excited to be able to get out there and have them on our side, on my side, and, you know, feed off the energy. And then yes, ultimately light the beam when the opportunity presents itself."

Maybe this will be a successful marriage between Westbrook and the Kings. Both sides could certainly use some stability.
