Rockets Trade Idea Lands Them a Star Starting Point Guard

When the Houston Rockets lost their starting point guard, Fred VanVleet, before the start of the 2025-26 season, many called for them to make a trade. Replacing someone as crucial as VanVleet isn’t an easy feat. VanVleet plays both sides of the floor and is an exemplary leader. The Rockets decided to start the season without a traditional starting point guard to see how they fared running the offense through their other stars.

Now, a new point guard may be entering the trade market, and the Rockets have to be considering making a move.

Rockets receive: Ja Morant

Memphis receives: Fred VanVleet, Dorian Finney-Smith, Aaron Holiday, and two first-round picks.

Ja Morant trade rumors are picking up. The Eockets have to be one of the teams considering going after him. After all, they have a gap at point guard, and Morant is one of the best in the league.

Still, the Rockets don’t need to be making any risky moves. The team looks pretty damn good, even without VanVleet. Bringing in someone as controversial as Morant could mess up what they’ve got going.

Instead, the Rockets should look for help at point from someone who demands less attention and brings less drama. A solid veteran point guard who is willing to start or come off the bench.

The Rockets have the assets to make another trade to help complete their roster. However, using those assets to get a player with an injury history and a history of off-court issues is just too risky for a team that looks close to being a championship contender.
