Report: Mavs Front Office Wants To See Flagg, Kyrie, And AD Share The Court Before Deciding On Major Trades

The Dallas Mavericks are front and center in trade chatter this season, as rumors of a rebuild continue to hound the organization that gave up Luka Doncic just months ago. However, if a new report is to be believed, any major move on the part of the Mavericks will hinge on one condition being met.
According to reporter Tomer Azarly, that condition is the scenario of Cooper Flagg, Anthony Davis, and Kyrie Irving sharing the court and showing what type of chemistry they could have. Azarly says that the Mavericks reportedly want to see how this trio pans out before pulling the trigger on any major trade.
Azarly, however, added that the Mavericks could veer away from this game plan if another condition comes to fruition. “That obviously could change, assuming you get the right package for AD,” he wrote.
Among the three Mavs stars, Davis is literally and figuratively the biggest trade chip that Dallas wields this season. All signs point to Flagg becoming the cornerstone of the Mavericks’ future, while Irving’s stock has taken a hit due to the Achilles injury that he’s recuperating from.
Though Davis has gained a degree of infamy for being prone to injuries throughout his career, he is nevertheless viewed as a game-changer who can help a contending team move even closer to title aspirations. This season, the one-time NBA champion and 10-time All-Star is averaging 19.6 points and 10.2 rebounds per game in 10 outings.

The Mavericks front office, which has undergone a revamp of its own after the dismissal of former GM Nico Harrison, would be justifiably cautious as they look to find the best ways to beef up their roster. It can be argued that the Mavs (9–16) are still reeling from the trade that shipped Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, as the team continues to struggle to even reach .500.
Several other teams in the Western Conference have taken a step or two to stay competitive this season, and time is not exactly on the Mavericks’ side in terms of keeping up with the rest of the field. It makes sense for the Mavs to see how their envisioned core will perform on the hardcourt, but waiting for Flagg, Davis, and Irving to be consistently available at the same time might eventually take its toll.
