Report: Aaron Nesmith Agrees To 2-Year Extension With Indiana Pacers
Oct 22, 2025
Between player injuries and player movement, there has been plenty of turmoil within the Indiana Pacers’ camp over the past few months. But now, the Pacers are starting to steady the ship, with one of their starters extending his stint in Indianapolis.
On Monday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Aaron Nesmith had signed a contract extension with the Pacers. As per Charania, Nesmith agreed to a two-year, $40.4 million deal to stay in Indiana through the 2028–29 season.
Charania added that the Pacers threw in a trade kicker in this new deal, which allows Nesmith to enjoy the “max allowed salary via extension.”
This is a positive development for a Pacers squad that is still reeling from the season-ending Achilles injury sustained by Tyrese Haliburton in the 2025 NBA Finals. On top of this, defensive stalwart Myles Turner left in free agency to sign with the Pacers’ Eastern Conference rivals, the Milwaukee Bucks.
Now, the Pacers have secured at least two more years from Nesmith, a 6-foot-6 bruising forward who brings toughness on the defensive end and the ability to space the floor. Last season, the former Vanderbilt star averaged 12 points per game on 43.1% shooting from the field, along with 4.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per outing.

After spending the first two seasons of his career with the Boston Celtics, Nesmith has played in Indianapolis for the past three years. Under Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle, he has thrived in the role of a 3-and-D wing; along with Andrew Nembhard, Nesmith has hounded the best perimeter scorers that other teams have to offer.
This season, however, Nesmith will have to play a bigger role as Carlisle looks to the core of his 2024–25 squad to lead the way. In Haliburton’s absence, Nesmith will have to steer the ship along with Nembhard and Pascal Siakam.
With his future in Indiana secured for essentially the rest of this decade, Nesmith is expected to play an inspired brand of basketball this season for the Pacers.
