One Ja Morant Trade That Could Change the Western Conference Heirarchy

The NBA season is fully underway, and NBA trade rumors are starting to pop up as teams are figuring out what is and what isn’t working on their rosters to start the year. The Memphis Grizzlies have been one of the teams involved in a lot of these rumors as at 4-9 they haven’t started the season as well as some were expecting.

Now, some think that Ja Morant could be on the trade market. Not only are the Grizzlies not performing, but Morant has been fighting with the coaching staff, and some think it could be time for a change in Memphis.

One Ja Morant trade idea was proposed by Bleacher Report that looked like this:

Minnesota Timberwolves receive: Ja Morant. Memphis Grizzlies receive: Naz Reid, Donte DiVincenzo, Rob Dillingham, 2029 Second-Round Pick.

This Morant trade doesn’t make a ton of sense for the Grizzlies. While Reid and DiVincenzo are solid role players, the Grizzlies won’t have much use for them without a star like Morant. Dillingham is also a nice young piece, but hasn’t shown that he has star potential either.

That’s why this Morant trade won’t happen. If the Grizzlies are going to make the tough decision to part ways with their franchise star, they are going to ask for a young stud or first-round draft picks in return.

Unless the Grizzlies could flip Reid and DiVincenzo into more draft capital or younger pieces, it just doesn’t make sense to do this trade with Minnesota.

For the Timberwolves, this trade sounds great. Pick up another star without having to get rid of any of your top players. That’s why it won’t happen. It’s just too unrealistic.
