Nate Robinson Compares One Of The Fastest Rising NBA Stars...To Himself
Oct 9, 2025
Ask any 2000s NBA fan about Nate Robinson, and they’ll tell you about his exploits at the Slam Dunk Contest. The athletic guard, they might say, was the kryptonite to Dwight Howard’s Superman, putting smiles on spectators’ faces as he racked up three Slam Dunk titles.
Robinson was never quite a marquee name in the NBA, but in his mind, one of today’s top stars reminds him of…himself.
In an interview with Sam Yip of Hoops Hype, the 11-year NBA veteran said he sees himself in Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards.
“I think Anthony Edwards is a 6-foot-4, 6-foot-5 type of Nate Robinson. Built, athletic, backs up his s*** talking. I love that,” Robinson said. “He does a great job being a showman and presenting himself as one of the best players.”
Robinson, who stands 5-foot-9, complimented Edwards’ personality and predicted that the 24-year-old will soon become one of the most dominant players in the NBA.
“He’s funny, he’s got a lot of swag, he’s a cool dude. I love his game,” Robinson added. “I know he’s going to take the league by storm in the next couple years and showcase what he can do.”
The Edwards comparison is interesting, as it has both merits and demerits. On the one hand, both Robinson and Edwards have been able to showcase tremendous athleticism and fearlessness in their respective playing careers. The two high-flying guards have highlight reels filled with masterful handles and spectacular dunks.

On the other hand, Robinson has never been a franchise player like Edwards has been over the past five years. When Robinson had his best statistical season in 2008-09, he averaged 17.2 ppg, 3.9 rpg, and 4.1 apg as a key reserve for the New York Knicks. Meanwhile, Edwards has averaged over 24 points and 5 rebounds in each of the past three seasons.
Robinson, of course, is entitled to his own opinion as far as personal comparisons are concerned. There’s no doubt, however, that his decision to place his career and playing style side by side with a current NBA cornerstone like Edwards is a bold choice.
