Moses Moody Continues to Prove Why the Warriors Need to Start Him

The Golden State Warriors may have re-found their recipe for success. Last year, after the Jimmy Butler trade, they went on an epic run, looking like true title contenders with a starting lineup that meshed perfectly. This season, they went with a different look to start the season, and have since gone back to a similar lineup that gave them so much success a year ago. One common factor of this success is Moses Moody.

Since last season, when Moody is in the starting lineup, the Warriors are 30–9. That's big enough of a sample size to show that when Moody starts, the Warriors are simply better.

Unfortunately for Moody, Steve Kerr loves to shake up his lineups and has never let Moody start the entire season. Moody is averaging a career high in minutes this year, which has also translated to career highs in points (13.2), assists (1.5), and steals (0.9) per game.

Moody is doing this all while often guarding one of the opposing team’s best wings or guards, and upping his three-point shooting percentage from a respectable 37.4% last season to an incredible 45.3% this season.

The combination of Moody’s defense and shooting opens everything up for the Warriors’ starting lineup. With Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green on the floor, Moody is essential in providing spacing for Stephen Curry and the Warriors' offense to flow.

That's why, barring injury, Moody needs to be left in the starting lineup for the remainder of the season. The Warriors simply need him to get the most out of their aging stars. So, Warriors fans should pray that Kerr doesn't try to get too experimental over the next few months, and leave Moody to do his thing.
