Kyrie Irving Officially Ruled Out For The Remainder Of The 2025/26 Season

Coming into the 2025/26 NBA season, there were so many storylines to follow, with one of the main ones being two season ending injuries from a year ago. That would be both Kyrie Irving and Jayson Tatum, with many hoping they could return at some point this year to help their team in their respective playoff pushes.

On one hand, Tatum could be close to returning soon for the Boston Celtics, but unfortunately for Kyrie Irving, he'll take no part in the 2025/26 season for the Dallas Mavericks, as officially announced on Wdnesday.

Unlike the Celtics, the Mavericks have long been out of the Western Conference playoff race, and at this point in time, it makes sense for Irving to not risk returning too early with the teams hopes up in smoke. On top of that, they also traded Anthony Davis, so now, they'll use the remainder of the 2025/26 regular season to give rookie sensation Cooper Flagg as much opportunity as possible.

Last season before he got injured, Irving was averaging 25, 5 and 5 for the Mavericks, and the hope was that if healthy this year, he could return to help them make an NBA Championship push. Ultimately though, sitting out is the best move for the 33-year old, and if he can get back to 100% for the 2026/27 regular season, he's got a chance to put together some very impressive years before he eventually has to call it quits.
