New Report Suggests The Shocking Reason Adam Silver Is Going After Tanking in the NBA

While tanking has been a thing not only in the NBA, but all of North American sports for quite some time now, in the past few weeks, talk about the process has been picking up significantly. That comes after Commissioner Adam Silver fined two NBA teams for their blatant tanking, following it up by two shocking suggestions as ways that he and the league can combat tanking.

Others, like Mark Cuban have called on the NBA to embrace it, rather than try and punish teams that want generational stars at the top of the draft, but either way, the topic isn't going away anytime soon. Now, it's all starting to make sense for some fans, with reporter Ben Golliver now suggesting that angry gambling agencies, who have so much riding on NBA games may be behind Silver's push to outlaw tanking in the NBA.

“Over-unders are at stake. You know, player props are at stake. If coaches are just willy-nilly not playing guys the entire game, and they’re not letting people know in advance that they plan to do that, you’re going to have a lot of angry gamblers and a lot of angry gambling companies as well.”

Obviously, this isn't confirmed, and may never be able to be confirmed, as Silver won't admit this out loud, but given the overwhelming and rapidly growing involvement of gambling companies in sports, it makes sense that this is playing a role.

Ultimately, all signs are now pointing towards Silver looking to overhaul the draft process one way or another, and whether gambling has anything to do with it, this could be a monumental change to the league moving forward.
