Kevin Durant Comments On Jayson Tatum's Achilles Recovery
Nov 4, 2025
When is Jayson Tatum going to return from his Achilles injury? A lot of people are wondering if Tatum is going to come back this season after tearing his Achilles in a playoff game last year. For most players who tear their Achilles, it is assumed they will miss the entire next season. However, videos and speculation about Tatum’s recovery have many thinking that he may defy the odds and come back sooner than most.
Kevin Durant, a fellow NBA star who dealt with his own Achilles rehab recently, spoke about Tatum’s recovery.
“At 5-6 months, I wouldn’t say I felt that confident to dunk the ball… Jayson looks like he’s killing the rehab. He looks great. I don’t see a limp. For someone to just have an achilles surgery in the playoff, he looks amazing.”

While Durant isn’t putting any timeline or pressure on Tatum, he is stating something that is really important. Not only does Tatum look ahead of schedule, but he has other stars marveling at his progress. Stars that know how hard it is to recover from an Achilles tear.
Hopefully for the Celtics, Tatum is able to return this season. A lot will probably depend on how the Celtics are playing. Right now, it looks like they will be fighting to stay out of the Play-In Tournament. They are 3-4 and only the 12th seed in the Eastern Conference.
If the current Celtics roster can’t prove that they are a Tatum away from potential contention, the Celtics should play it safe. There is no point in having Tatum return early if the Celtics are just going to get bounced in the first round.
