"Is Stephen Curry Gonna Be Nervous?": Reggie Miller Hypes Kon Knueppel's Shooting From Deep

Reggie Miller knows a talented sharpshooter when he sees one. This season, it appears that Miller has found the next prospect to light up the NBA from downtown.

Kon Knueppel has played just a few weeks into his rookie season, but he’s already made a believer out of the Basketball Hall of Famer. As a matter of fact, Miller is so confident in Knueppel’s skills that he invoked the name of the NBA’s all-time leader in three-point shooting.

“Dare I say this…is Stephen Curry gonna be a little nervous in about 15 years?” Miller said in an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show” this week. “Just go back and look at Steph’s first two or three years in terms of three-pointers made and what Kon has done this year.”

The numbers show that Miller might have a point. When Curry was a rookie back in the 2009–10 campaign, he made a total of 166 threes. Meanwhile, 18 games into his first NBA season, Knueppel has already made 63 outside shots. At this rate, the Hornets forward can surpass Curry’s total if he stays healthy throughout his rookie season.

As a matter of fact, Knueppel can set his sights higher if he wants to. Surprisingly, Curry is not at the top of this category related to three-point shooting; the player who holds the record for most threes made as an NBA rookie is Keegan Murray, who made 206 shots from deep after being drafted by the Sacramento Kings in 2022.

Even more impressively, Knueppel is piling up the threes on an efficient clip. He’s taking 8.4 three-point attempts per game and converting on 3.5 shots for a 41.7% clip from beyond the arc.

If the former Duke standout can cut back on the misses for the rest of the season, he might be able to finish within the ballpark of 46.7%. Back in the 2008–09 season, this was the outside shooting clip of Anthony Morrow, who set the record for best three-point shooting percentage by a rookie with a minimum of 82 three-point field goals made.

The possibilities of breaking records related to outside shooting allow Knueppel to stand head and shoulders above the 2025–26 rookie class. Unsurprisingly, Miller believes that a once-in-a-lifetime accolade is coming Knueppel’s way.

“Can Kon Knueppel be the best rookie this year?” Patrick asked Miller. With little hesitation, the sniper-turned-analyst replied, “He’s winning Rookie of the Year.”
