Draymond Green Explains Why He Hates Playing on Christmas

Playing on Christmas Day is a high honor in the NBA. Only the best teams and players get the honor of playing, but it doesn't mean that they don’t get to spend the special day with their family. Recently, some of the staples of Christmas, like LeBron James, have spoken about the difficulties of playing every year on Christmas.

Draymond Green, who, along with the Golden State Warriors, has played on Christmas Day for more than a decade, also shared why he doesn’t enjoy playing on the NBA’s special day.

"To play on a day where everybody's watching, it's incredible. All of those things are great. But two things can be true at once: playing on Christmas Day also [expletive] sucks. The reason it sucks is, number one… it can affect your mood. Number two, we are human beings and, just like everyone else, enjoy Christmas Day with our families, which kinda gets messed up for us. They're at home or on vacation with their families, making memories; we don't get that opportunity. So I hate when people are like, 'Oh man, it's an honor to play on Christmas Day. People should shut up.' Like, no, you should shut up."

Some of the most entertaining Warriors’ games of the last decade have been Christmas Day matchups. Still, it sounds like Draymond is getting tired of having to spend his Christmas playing basketball rather than spending time with his children.

Lucky for Green, the Warriors might not be locked into a Christmas Day game for long. The team is getting worse, and there are tons of younger, more talented teams that are making a great case to join in on the festivities.
