Draymond Green Believes the All-Star Game May Never Matter Again
Nov 20, 2025
The NBA All-Star Game hasn’t mattered for a long time. It seems like almost a decade since we had players really trying and caring in the game, and maybe even longer. Nowadays it’s basically a sloppy pickup game where the players just go so that they can hang with the other stars and attend the parties of the weekend.
In the past, however, it was a true gauge of who the top dogs in the league were. We got to see players like Allen Iverson and Kobe Bryant go head-to-head, or see legends like Magic Johnson and Larry Bird go toe to toe in potential NBA Finals matchups.
Now, the NBA has just announced that, as a way to try and bring more intrigue back to the game, they will be doing a new format this season with USA teams competing against the World team.

When it was announced, it wasn’t a huge piece of news, and Draymond Green thinks that’s because the age of the All-Star game having any importance is officially over.
“I must say it was a little underwhelming, the support or the attention that this drew… to me, that was an alarming sign… this was announced and nobody cared… that thing was so fun to watch… when I saw the lackluster response, it was very clear to me that I just don’t know that it’s ever going to matter again… we can try all these different iterations, but I don’t know that it’ll ever pick up the lust it once had… it made it very evident to me that there may not be any coming back for All-Star Weekend… It’s a tough pill to swallow, but one you have to take a deep look at.”
Draymond may be right on this one. The All-Star game has been so bad for so long that even this new format may not be able to save it.
