Doctor Reveals Likely Timeline for Moses Moody's Calf Injury

The Golden State Warriors' injury report already has some unfortunate names on it. Moses Moody, who was in competition to be the Warriors’ starting shooting guard, went down during the preseason with a calf injury and is expected to miss the Warriors’ opening night on Tuesday against the Lakers.

Dr. Geoffrey Abrams, MD, gave NBC Sports Bay Area his opinion on Moses Moody’s injury timeline.

"If the team is describing it as a minor muscle strain, it's probably ... some microscopic tearing and minor partial tearing…The good news about that, obviously, it's on the lesser severe end of the spectrum, and typical return-to-play timelines are a couple weeks or so for these more minor muscle-grade strains."

What’s good about this prognosis is that Moody shouldn’t miss significant time to start the Warriors’ season. The Warriors need Moody healthy so that they can rely on his defense and shooting without putting too much stress on their older veterans.

Moody, Brandin Podziemski, and Jonathan Kuminga are going to be key in keeping heavy minutes off of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green during the regular season.

What’s not ideal is that this Moody injury is muscular, and if not healed correctly, could come back to haunt him again throughout the season. The Warriors need to avoid this at all costs.

That’s why, despite needing him on the court, expect the Warriors to be extra cautious with Moody’s injury. They are playing the long game this season, and rushing him back onto the court just to have him re-aggravate his calf would be a nightmare. Hopefully, Moody can take the court within the next week or so and be at 100%. If not, the Warriors may be putting undue stress on their veterans early on, something they’d like to avoid.
