Derrick Jones Carried Off The Court After Collision With Jaylen Brown

The Los Angeles Clippers have many things to resolve as they try to climb out of the Western Conference’s cellar. Unfortunately, they added one more thing to their list of woes in a Sunday night loss to the Boston Celtics.
In the second quarter of this game, Celtics star Jaylen Brown dove to the floor in an attempt to secure the loose ball. As he did so, he collided with the leg of Clippers forward Derrick Jones Jr., whose right knee bent at an awkward angle.
Collapsing to the ground, Jones clutched his knee. He struggled to get to his feet, and he would eventually require assistance from the Clippers staff to head toward the locker room.
With under a minute left in regulation, Jones was seen holding crutches as he watched the endgame from the tunnel of TD Garden. The Celtics came out on top, 121–118.
At this point, the last thing that the struggling Clippers (4–9) need is another starter going down with a major injury. Last week, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that newly acquired guard Bradley Beal would be undergoing season-ending surgery on his left hip. Just a day later, Clippers executive Lawrence Frank announced that Kawhi Leonard was dealing with both an ankle sprain and a foot sprain.
Losing Jones for an extended period will only make the Clippers’ uphill climb even more arduous. In 12 games this season, the 6-foot-5 forward had been averaging a career-high 10.9 points per game on 54.0% shooting from the field. He is also contributing 3.4 rebounds and one steal on a nightly basis.

Prior to getting injured in the Clippers–Celtics game, Jones had five points, one rebound, and two blocks. The Clips would find themselves in a 63–49 hole as they headed into halftime, but their offense would come alive in the second half as James Harden led a valiant effort to get back into the contest.
The Celtics, however, kept making shots in the final frame to stave off the visiting team. Moving forward, coach Ty Lue will have to dig deep into his roster as he attempts to fill the void left by Jones and the rest of the injured Clippers.
