Dallas Mavericks Curse Continues With Another Injury to Key Player

The Dallas Mavericks may be cursed. Ever since they decided to secretly trade away Luka Doncic, their young and dominant franchise superstar, things have not been going as planned. Last season, soon after giving away Doncic, the Mavericks were hit with a string of injuries, completely ruining their season. Both Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving went down, and people were wondering if the basketball gods were exacting their revenge on the Mavericks.

This season, there was some hope in Dallas. They somehow landed Cooper Flagg, the number one overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. They had a healthy Davis and a roster full of talented veterans to both help teach Flagg and keep the Mavericks relevant as a playoff team in a crazy, competitive Western Conference.

Many believed that if Davis was healthy and the Mavericks could tread water until Irving returned from injury, they could be a dangerous team late in the season.

Unfortunately for the Mavericks, Davis is already hurt. In the Mavericks vs. Pacers game on Wednesday night, Davis went down with a lower-leg injury after falling awkwardly in the first quarter and wasn’t able to return to the game.

With Davis’ history of injuries and his recent history of issues with bilateral Achilles tendinopathy, this injury doesn’t bode well for Davis or the Mavericks.

Mavericks coach Jason Kidd did confirm that Davis attempted to come back, meaning this injury might not be a bad one.

Still, if Davis is forced to miss a chunk of the season dealing with an injury, the Mavericks could be screwed. They are already without Kyrie Irving, and losing Davis would likely doom them to the lottery once again.
