Dallas Mavericks Called This Western Conference Foe About Anthony Davis Trade
Jan 1, 2026
The Dallas Mavericks could be very active at this season’s NBA trade deadline. This season hasn’t gone exactly as planned, and they have a new young star to build around. The future looks bright. Unfortunately, they have a lot of veterans on the team that could get in the way of Cooper Flagg’s development.
That’s why the Mavericks trade rumors have started to run wild. At the very least, they are trying to find a new home for Anthony Davis, but they also could have a few other players on the block.
Recently, a report came out that the Mavericks and Golden State Warriors held discussions about a possible Davis trade.
NBA insider Sam Amick clarified recently that it wasn’t the Warriors inquiring about Davis from the Mavericks, but actually the Mavericks shopping him to the Warriors.
“While a league source said the Mavericks do have interest in the Warriors’ Jonathan Kuminga, who can’t be traded until Jan. 15 but is widely expected to be dealt before the deadline, the fifth-year forward’s salary ($22.5 million) comes well short of Davis’ ($54.1 million) and would thus require the inclusion of another big contract—i.e., Green ($25.8 million)…What’s more, it should be noted that the Mavericks called Golden State about the Davis possibility—and not the other way around.”

The idea of Davis on the Warriors is very interesting, but making the money work will be difficult. Trading for Davis would likely require the Warriors to trade either Jimmy Butler or Draymond Green in the deal. The Warriors have made it clear they don’t want to add those stars in any trades they make at the deadline, so that means the Mavericks are probably going to need to find a different buyer for their oft-injured star center.
